Giant Mottled Eel (Anguillidae)
Today we introduced another new lake species The Giant Mottled Eel – Origin Bago River Southern Myanmar.
Currently large at 9kg and 1m 30cm the Giant Eel should grow to at least double this size… wearing gloves is advised when handling the head end as they have 3 rows of turtle-type teeth..

Granulated Catfish Pterodoras Granulosus
Also stocked today, another of our Granulated Catfish (Imported) – a heavily armored catfish found throughout many of the larger rivers of South America.
A lot more spikes and armory than the Ripsaw Catfish and can also grow a lot larger….the serrated razor-sharp pectoral fins will clamp down hard on your fingers while handling them, you will need assistance to free your hand so wearing gloves is advisable 
we have now stocked the lake with 4 of the 9 fish purchased..

It was a fast-paced 3 days of fishing for Grant and Tim which left them with a fish count of just under 60 fish and 15 different species in the net…Grant had previously fished with us last year and brought his friend Tim along this year with ambitions of capturing one of our arapaimas… on the first day, his wish came true as the line screamed off the reel with a fish that gave him the fight of his life..
We are now accepting overnight stays……please ask for details..
Our fishing bungalows are ideal for when you bring the wife, girlfriend or nonfishing friends, the bungalow is equipped with high-speed internet, fully stocked fridge, electric sockets for charging phones, bathroom with hot shower, comfy chairs and loungers to relax or sleep, Thai and western food and now NETFLIX for movies or Thai soaps…

It was very nice to welcome Jim back to the lake again this year. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, we have been quite lucky to get a few anglers around the lake. The lake has been fishing well and Jim had a very enjoyable 3 days and lost count of the amount of carp he landed…
Jim is now a member of our Expats Angling Club and able to continue to enjoy the discounted rates even after the virus problem is long over. The lake is now big enough to facilitate this and it should be fun… if you are interested in membership please contact us for further details..

Lez traveled up from Khon Kaen for a days fishing but due to the rains, he was only able to fish in the afternoon, although he still managed to land 12 fish within 6 hours and went home a happy man…

Giant Raphael Catfish – Talking Catfish (Megalodoras Uranoscopus)
A new species going into the main lake this morning and a rare fish for Thailand. The Giant Raphael Catfish or Talking Catfish native to the Amazon River Basin. Similar to the ripsaw catfish but extremely slow-growing so one of this size would be 6 – 7 years old.. He still has quite a bit of growing to do yet though… known as ‘ talking catfish’ as they make a loud clicking noise by rubbing their spiny pectoral fins against their body armor…
The Giant Raphael Catfish (Megalodoras uranoscopus) are also known to tropical fish keeping enthusiasts as the Giant Talking Catfish. Mother of Snails Catfish or Megalodoras Catfish is a native to the Amazon River Basin in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

There have previously been recorded growth rates of up to 28 inches or more, in the Amazon, Essequibo, and Tocantins river systems.
The fish prefers slower-moving creeks, swamps, river tributaries, and areas like Lake Hyanuary, close to Manaus, Brazil’s rainforest city. Depending on the time of year they can be found hiding among tree roots and submerged vegetation. Talking Catfish have been found in temporarily flooded areas and the main river channels.
Although they occasionally form small schools, they prefer living in smaller groups. In the wild, they feed on Licania and Astorcaryum palm fruits and are particularly fond of pulmonate snails.

It was very nice to welcome Tony Owen from (Owens Roofing) to Lek’s for an eight day fishing holiday, Tonys target species was the arapaima and the much sought after Julians Golden Price Carp… constant baiting up in certain areas paid off with a total fish count over 8 days of 85 fish, 15 species (inc 9 arapaima….)
